A Day in Valletta

We woke up this morning to an overcast and cloudy day, with an expectation of rain. But that didn't deter us. We got ready and had some breakfast. Around 9:30am we left the apartment and headed for the waterfront. We decided to take the ferry across the Grand Harbor to Valletta. The ferry takes about 15 minutes to cross. But we had just missed the ferry leaving so we had to wait about 20 minutes for the next one. The ride over to Valletta was beautiful - the views were amazing. Once we were off the ferry in Valletta we walked over to the Barrakka Lift and took it up to the Upper Barrakka Gardens. We spent a little time walking around the gardens and taking in the view of the Grand Harbor and the Three Cities across the way. We left the gardens and headed to another park to look for a letterbox. You can read about that little adventure at One Letterbox on Malta. After looking for the letterbox we went in search of Hard Rock Cafe. Deanne collects pins from there and she wanted to find one today. It took a little work but we finally found the place and Deanne was able to get her pin. From the Hard Rock we walked along the waterfront and made our way to the Barrakka Lift and up to the Upper Barrakka Gardens, again. Then we walked up Merchant Street and then over to Republic Steet and did some shopping. All the while we were heading to Il-Teatro for some lunch. Thomas and I had pizza and we had a nice relaxing meal.

After lunch we walked over to St. John's Co-Cathedral. I wanted to go inside and see the place but no one else was really interested so we skipped it and just wandered around. Around 3:00pm we headed back to the ferry and returned to Birgu. From the ferry we ended up stopping at a store so Dave and Deanne could get some wine and vodka. Then we headed back to the apartment. I was a little frustrated because no one seemed to want to do anything. Anyway, when we returned to the apartment Thomas and I felt really cold. We were sitting in the living room wearing jackets. A little while later Thomas decided to go lay in bed to read and get warm. I continued working on my photos and blog in the living room. It was a quiet afternoon and we just relaxed for the rest of the day.

A little later Deanne asked if we wanted to go to dinner and we declined. We decided we needed some time to ourselves. We spent part of the evening in the bedroom since it was warm (there was a heater in the room). We had leftovers from the night before for dinner and ended up watching a movie and relaxing for the rest of the evening. Dave and Deanne returned from dinner and said they had a nice time.

Tomorrow we want to get out and see some things but I am not sure what we will do - I guess that means tomorrow will be a surprise.
